Nov. 26--Just in time for Thanksgiving comes this week's Theater Loop Showcase video: Kelly O'Sullivan and Sadieh Rifai in "The Humans," a new play by Pulitzer Prize-finalist Stephen Karam at American Theater Company.
Karam's emotional comedy is one continuous scene set in a fixer-upper apartment in New York's Chinatown neighborhood. A family has come together for Thanksgiving dinner at the youngest child's scrappy new abode, and conditions, both setting and circumstance, are less than ideal.
As the family tries to relive traditions of a gentler Pennsylvania past, adult realities like money, aging, health and work creep up on the meal. In this scene, sisters Aimee (Sadieh Rifai) and Brigid (Kelly O'Sullivan) catch up on the ups and downs of each others' lives, not quite out of earshot.
"The Humans" plays American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St., through Dec. 21.
