BRIEF: A's pitcher Sonny Gray scratched in opener against White Sox because of food poisoning

April 04--Those ready for an opening-day matchup between White Sox pitcher Chris Sale and Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray were disappointed Monday.

Gray was scratched with food poisoning Monday afternoon, and left-hander Rich Hill will start in his place against the Sox.

Hill, who was slated to start Tuesday's game against Sox left-hander Jose Quintana, made four starts with the Red Sox last season, going 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA. This will be the first opening-day start for the 36-year-old.

Gray went 14-7 with a 2.73 ERA in 2015 on the way to finishing third in American League Cy Young voting, ahead of Sale, who was fourth.
