BRIEF: A grisly discovery: Boy walking home from school finds dead baby in Long Beach alley

Feb. 24--A 13-year-old boy walking home from school made a horrifying discovery Tuesday: the decomposed body of an infant in a Long Beach alley.

The child's body was found about 4:20 p.m. in the alley near 67th Street and Gardenia Avenue, Long Beach Police Det. Claudia Lopez said.

Jamal Davison said he found the infant's body while walking home from school.

"After that, I realized it was a baby. Then I called police," he told KTLA-TV station. "It looked like a newborn. It looked just like a newborn."

The baby, he said, was in a cardboard box.

Investigators have not determined the child's sex, age or identity. It's unclear how long the body was at the location or how the child died.

"It's still very early in the investigation," she said.

In the alley and the surrounding area, which is near an offramp for the 91 Freeway, investigators were collecting evidence into the night.
