BRIEF: 9 Marines still hospitalized after last week's fatal vehicle accident at Camp Pendleton

Sept. 15--Five Marines remain hospitalized in critical condition, and four in stable condition, as a result of Thursday's rollover vehicle accident at Camp Pendleton in which a Marine was killed.

Nine other Marines were injured but no longer hospitalized.

The accident occurred during routine training. The vehicle was a 7-ton truck primarily used for transporting Marines, fuel, water food and supplies.

The Marine killed was Cpl. Bryan Michael Lauw, 21, of Denham Springs, La. Lauw enlisted in June 2012, served as an anti-tank missile man, and was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

"He had a recruiter come to the [high] school and just right off he knew that's what he wanted," his mother, Kristi Lauw, told WAFB Channel 9 in Baton Rouge. "He was pretty passionate about it and signed up right away."

His family said he was still a kid at heart and could recite the lyrics from "Frozen," the animated fantasy by Walt Disney Studios.

"He was so lovable, so goofy," said his older sister, Ashley.

On Friday night, Lauw's high-school dedicated its football game in his honor.
