March 19--A Canadian company has recalled 840,000 packages of yarn, saying it can unravel or snag and form loops in finished products, endangering young children.
The recall of Spinrite Yarn's Bernat Tizzy yarn was announced online Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. No injuries have been reported, but the company has received two reports of children getting entangled in unraveling or snagging yarn blankets.
"We recognize our consumers put a lot of care into their projects, and we just want to make sure we do everything we can to make things right for them," said Denise Darragh, vice president of marketing for Spinrite Yarns.
The recall includes all 11 colors of the textured yarn. About 620,000 of the packages were sold in the United States.
The yarn was sold at Jo-Ann Stores and Michaels, as well as online at yarnspirations.com from April 2012 through February 2015 for about $5. It came either in a ball or a skein with a paper sleeve.
Consumers who bought the yarn should stop using it immediately and contact the company for a full refund. To apply for the refund, customers should take a photo of the product and go to company's recall page for instructions.
