BRIEF: 8 injured in Southwest Side bus crash

Feb. 22--Eight people, including a bus driver, suffered minor injuries in a crash involving a CTA bus Sunday evening on the Southwest Side, authorities said.

The injuries of those involved in the crash near Western Avenue and 49th Street were not life-threatening. They were taken to area hospitals, including Mercy, St. Anthony and Holy Cross, in fair-to-serious condition, according to a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

The bus was headed south on Western Avenue near 49th Street at about 5:30 p.m. when a southbound car with its headlights off hit the rear of the bus, said Jeff Layton, a CTA spokesman. All of those injured, who included the bus operator, suffered what were believed to be minor injuries, he said.
