BRIEF: 8 gain clemency from Gov. Bruce Rauner, who denies 152 others

March 26--Gov. Bruce Rauner granted clemency to eight people while denying 152 other requests, his office said Friday.

Rauner said the 160 clemency petitions acted upon by the governor date back to April 2012 and that this is the ninth set of petitions he has reviewed since taking office. Each person granted clemency has recently undergone a criminal background check through the Illinois State Police.

A granted clemency request for a pardon with expungement allows the petitioner to seek expungement of their conviction through the court system.
