BRIEF: $750K bail for man accused of shooting 16-year-old

March 08--Bail was set Sunday at $750,000 for a South Side man accused in connection with a February shooting that left a 16-year-old boy in serious condition.

Judge Donald Panarese set the bail Sunday during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court building for Lawrence Longstreet, 19, of the 2900 block of South Federal Street in the Dearborn Homes neighborhood.

Longstreet was charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, according to an e-mailed release from the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.

The incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. Feb. 16 in the 6200 block of S. Cottage Grove Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side. Police said that the suspect in the case had approached a 16-year-old boy there and shot the boy in the back.

The 16-year-old was taken in serious condition to University of Chicago Hospital. Police said no update was available on the boy's condition today.

Police later released surveillance photos of the suspect.
