BRIEF: 50 blades of grass? Incident on store lawn shocks shoppers

Feb. 16--Police are still shaking their heads over a Valentine's Day case of love gone overboard in Chula Vista.

When officers catch a couple in a comprising position, the couple is usually surprised, police Lt. Buddy Magor said Monday.

This time, the surprise was for authorities, as well as customers and employees of Christina's Fashion.

A 20-year-old man and 38-year-old woman apparently had just met on the trolley, police said, but they were infatuated enough with each other that they wound up at about 3:30 p.m. in front of the Palomar Street clothing store.

Customers and workers reported the couple after they noticed their public display of affection had progressed beyond kissing, Magor said.

Moments later, he said, a detective observed the couple engaged in a sex act in a grassy area in front of the store.

The lovers were cited for committing lewd acts in public, which is a misdemeanor, he said. In addition, the man was arrested on suspicion of violating probation, Magor said.

News of the couple's passionate union went viral on social media, gaining them even wider renown.
