Nov. 07--Six people were injured, one seriously, in a crash on the Bishop Ford Freeway early Saturday in the south suburbs, Illinois State Police confirmed.
The crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. Saturday after someone drove the wrong way on Interstate 94 near 159th Street, state police said. Both inbound and outbound lanes were closed in response.
Preliminary information indicated a wrong-way driver entered into the southbound lanes and crashed into a vehicle causing it to veer into the northbound lanes. Two other vehicles in the northbound lanes then collided, police said. Four cars in total were involved in the crash, and four adults and two boys, were injured.
The wrong-way driver, a 22-year-old man, was seriously injured and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 35-year-old woman, who was driving the vehicle carrying two boys, was taken to an Indiana hospital, as well as a 46-year-old woman who also was driving another vehicle, said police.
One of the boys, 16, was taken to Advocate Christ, and the other boy, 14, was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
A 45-year-old man who was a driver of one of the four vehicles was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital, police said.
As of about 7:20 a.m., all lanes had reopened in both directions, state police said.
Charges were pending against the wrong-way driver, police said.
