BRIEF: 5 hurt after Christmas Day crash in Northbrook

Dec. 26--Five people were hurt after two cars crashed in northwest suburban Northbrook on Christmas Day, according to authorities.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Sanders and North Mission Hills roads in unincorporated Northbrook, according to a statement from Tim Smeltzer, deputy chief of operations with the Northbrook Fire Department.

Four people were in critical condition and one more person was in less than serious condition, Smeltzer said.

Nearby fire departments from Wheeling and Glenview helped Northbrook's fire department with responding to the crash.

The accident is under the investigation by the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
