BRIEF: 49ers' Aldon Smith puts his Bay Area home on the block

Feb. 16--Aldon Smith, the dynamic pass-rusher for the San Francisco 49ers, has popped his home in San Jose on the market for $2.988 million.

Entered through a gated drive, the three-story Traditional features a double-height entry with sweeping staircase, modern interiors and large formal areas in more than 6,400 square feet. Living spaces include a movie theater with a wet bar, as well as an office, six bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Set on close to 10 acres, the hillside property centers on wide views of the surrounding mountains and cityscape. Outdoor amenities include a play area, a pool and spa, and an outdoor kitchen with a wet bar and fireplace. Elsewhere on the fenced grounds is a horse stable and a row of solar panels.

The former first-round pick purchased the home in 2012, following his rookie season with the 49ers, for $1.75 million, records show. Jacklyn Friedland of McGuire Real Estate is the listing agent.

Smith, 25, reportedly paid to play football in 2014 after forfeiting a portion of his prorated signing bonus due to a league-imposed, nine-game suspension last season. The 2012 All-Pro First-Team member is set to make $9.754 million in 2015, the final year of his rookie contract.
