Oct. 07--A man was shot to death and eight other people, including a 53-year-old woman, were wounded in shootings on Chicago's South and West sides Tuesday.
The fatal shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.
Two 24-year-old men were sitting in a parked vehicle on the 4400 block of West Maypole Avenue when a person walked up to them and began firing, police said.
One of the men went to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a head wound and later was pronounced dead, according to police. The other man was taken to Stroger with head and hand wounds. His condition had stabilized.
No one was in custody as a result of the shooting.
Most recently, a 19-year-old man was critically hurt in a shooting around 7:50 p.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
The man was in the 1300 block of South Kostner Avenue when he was shot in the neck, Alfaro said. He was taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
At 7:20 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot on the 7200 block of South Marshfield Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. The man was struck in the foot and was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
A 25-year-old man was critically injured in the Lawndale neighborhood about noon. The man was shot in the 1400 block of South Kostner Avenue and dropped off at Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. He had been shot multiple times in the abdomen and left side of his body.
Two people were shot in the Lawndale neighborhood about 9:15 a.m., police said. A woman, 53, and a man, 21, were shot in the 1300 block of South Albany Avenue. The woman was shot in the chin and the man in the leg. Both were taken to Mount Sinai, where their conditions had stabilized.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood about 8:30 a.m., police said. He was shot in the right leg and told police that someone on foot fired in his direction. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.
Earlier, police found a man shot in the arm and abdomen in the Roseland neighborhood just before 8 a.m. The man, 24, was shot in the first block of West 112th Street and was taken to Christ Medical Center in stable condition.
No one is in custody in any of the shootings.
