BRIEF: 4 officers hurt when their police cars collide on Far South Side

Aug. 14--Four police officers were seriously hurt Friday when two squad cars collided while assisting in the chase of a man with a gun in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, authorities said.

The cars, each carrying two 5th District officers, crashed into each other at 115th and State streets around 11:05 a.m., according to police and fire officials.

Two of the officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and two were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were serious but stable.

The officers were called to help in a chase that began at 118th and State when a man was spotted with a gun, police said. The man was arrested, and charges were pending.
