2 killed, 3 others wounded in shootings in Chicago

Feb. 05--Two men were killed and three other men were wounded in shootings Thursday across Chicago, according to police.

About 7:40 p.m., an 18-year-old man was died after he was shot in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man, identified as Tony Jones, was walking in the 5900 block of West Le Moyne Street when he was shot several times in the abdomen and back, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He managed to get to the 1400 block of North Mayfield Avenue, where an ambulance was called, Alfaro said.

Jones, of the 2700 block of West Concord Place, was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Alfaro and the medical examiner's office said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:13 p.m.

In another fatal shooting, around 5:15 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Division Street in Humboldt Park, Alfaro said.

A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were inside a business when someone walked in and fired shots, Alfaro said.

The 19-year-old man was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Alfaro said.

The 20-year-old man was hit in the elbow and taken to the same hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

No one was in custody.

Other shootings:

--A 59-year-old man was wounded about 8:20 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, Alfaro said. The man suffered a graze wound to the head in the 11700 block of South Prairie Avenue, Alfaro said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

--An earlier attack in the Lakeview neighborhood left a 55-year-old man in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the man and another person were involved in an argument in the 800 block of West Oakdale Avenue. The other person pulled out a gun and shot the man in the left upper chest, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

The man was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Trainor said.

Police were questioning a person of interest.
