BRIEF: Squad car crashes during chase of stolen van with girl, 2, inside

Nov. 30--Two Chicago police officers and another person were slightly injured Sunday night when a squad car crashed into another car while chasing a stolen van with a 2-year-old girl inside, officials said.

The chase started around 8:50 p.m. after a man jumped into a van that was running in the 3900 block of West Cermak Road in the Little Village neighborhood, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man drove off with the 2-year-old girl in the back seat, police said.

Police stopped the van near Logan Boulevard and California Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood, more than six miles away, police said, and the man was taken into custody without incident.

As a precaution, the 2-year-old girl was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, where she was treated and released, Alfaro said.

During the chase, a squad car collided with another car at Logan and California. Two police officers and a person inside the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, Alfaro said.

Charges were pending against the suspect early Monday.
