BRIEF: 2017 Ram Power Wagon busts into 2016 Chicago Auto Show

Feb. 11--Ram unveiled the 2017 Ram Power Wagon on at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show's press preview on Thursday, February 11.

The off-road rock-busting version of the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4x4 Crew Cab is part of a slew of trucks including the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Nissan Titan half-ton pickup being introduced at the show.

Since the refreshed Power Wagon uses the same 6.4-liter, HEMI V-8 engine that gnerates 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, the upgrades are largely cosmetic. The off-road suspension with Bilstein shocks gives it two more inches of clearance, to 14.3 inches.

The Power Wagon gets unique 17-inch wheels with 33-inch DuraTrac tires.

The grille is a "supersized" Rebel that diverts from Ram's cross-hair grille with a blacked-out, n-shaped insert--or mean face--that frames silver RAM lettering with projector headlights with LED markers--essentially the same fascia of the 2016 Ram Rebel, but larger.

A 12,000-pound electric winch with 125 feet of line comes standard out of the prominent front bumper of the 4x4, which has a towing capacity of up to 10,030 pounds.

Pricing hasn't been announced. The outgoing Power Wagon started at $51,160.
