March 25--Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, with its white-washed stucco walls, striking archways, wrought iron balconies and colorful tile, has flourished in Pasadena thanks to the romantic designs of master architects such as Wallace Neff, Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey.
On Sunday, the nonprofit preservation group Pasadena Heritage will showcase the work of other architects in a tour of 11 Spanish homes located in Pasadena and La Ca.
The self-driven, docent-led tour, titled "Spectacular Spanish!", will include the 1927 Earl House designed by Everett Phipps Babcock, the 1927 Hoag House designed by Charles H. Kyson, and the Wyndhamsmith House, a modern take on Spanish Revival completed in 2010.
The tour also includes seven modest homes located on Marguerita Lane, a private road listed on the National Register of Historic Places that was originally designed as an artists' colony.
The tour runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $35 to $45. Same-day tour tickets may be purchased online or until 1 p.m. at the will-call station at 1466 San Pasqual St. in Pasadena. (626) 441-6333.
