Oct. 10--Three people have been killed, including a 15-year-old boy, and at least six others wounded in shootings on the West and South sides since Friday morning, police said.
The most recent fatal shooting was at 4:10 a.m. Saturday in East Garfield Park, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic.
A 17-year-old boy was riding in a vehicle in the 3900 block of West Ferdinand Street when someone walked up and began firing shots. He was hit in the neck and the face and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At 3:20 a.m., a 33-year-old man was killed in an apartment in the Austin neighborhood.
He was attending a party in the 1100 block of North Lawler Avenue when someone shot him in the head, Sedevic said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead.
Partygoers gathered outside the building in the moments after the shooting, talking quietly.
Everyone was confused about what happened, said one woman who was at the apartment and heard the gunshots.
"I tell my friend, who the hell popping firecrackers in the house?" she said.
At 12:43 p.m. Friday, a boy in his mid-teens was killed in South Austin.
A 15-year-old boy was found in a backyard in the 4900 block of West Congress Parkway with gunshots to the legs and torso, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer.
Police initially said he was in his 20s, and that he had been shot in the stomach and head.
The boy was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office has not released the identities of those killed.
The most recent nonfatal shooting was at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, when a 19-year-old man was shot in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood, police said.
He was in the 2100 block of West Cullerton Street when he was shot twice in the abdomen, Sedevic said. He went to Stroger Hospital; information about his condition was not immediately available.
About 12:30 a.m., a 16-year-old girl was shot in the Longwood Manor neighborhood, police said.
She was in a residence in the 9500 block of South Green Street when someone outside fired shots into the building, said Chicago police spokesman Officer Ron Gaines.
She was shot in the arm and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Her condition was stabilized.
About 11 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood, police said.
He was walking in the 5300 block of South Artesian Avenue when someone on a motorcycle pulled up and fired shots, then rode away, Greer said.
He was hit in the left arm and a friend drove him to Holy Cross Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
At 11:15 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in Brainerd, police said.
He was a passenger in a vehicle driving south near the 9300 block of South Ashland Avenue when another vehicle drove up and someone inside fired shots, Greer said.
He was hit in the shoulder, and the driver took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
Police initially said the shooting happened at 1:15 p.m.
Earlier Friday morning, two men were shot in separate attacks on the West Side.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park, said police spokeswoman Officer Ana Pacheco, citing preliminary information.
He was shot in the arm in the 4100 block of West West End Avenue and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Pacheco said.
At about 7:35 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the 1100 block of North Leamington Avenue, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.
He told police he was walking on a sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. He was hit in the buttocks, police said.
He also was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in fair condition, Sedevic said.
