BRIEF: 2 wounded in Sunday shootings on the South, West sides

Dec. 14--Two people were shot Sunday afternoon in separate shootings on the South and West sides, said police.

The latest shooting happened about 2 p.m. on the 11100 South Vernon Avenue, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

A 36-yer-old man suffered a wound to his back and was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, said Zala.

Earlier Sunday, an 18-year-old was wounded in his left foot in an apparent drive-by shooting Son the city's West Side.

Shortly after 1 p.m., the teen was walking on the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street when he saw a gray or silver car approaching. Soon after, someone inside the vehicle fired shots, striking the teen in his left foot, according to preliminary police reports.

The teen was reported in good condition at the scene, police said.

As of 2 p.m., no one was in custody for the attack, and police were investigating.
