Oct. 13--A man was killed and four other people have been wounded during separate shootings since Sunday afternoon across the city.
A 28-year-old man died after he showed up at Rush University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his abdomen around 3:05 a.m. Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and police.
Someone dropped the man, identified as Juan Cardenas of the 2700 block of Grunewald Street in suburban Blue Island, off at the hospital and left, according to Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro and the medical examiner's office.
Cardenas was transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there at 5:05 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
It was not immediately clear how or where the man was shot, police said.
The car used to drop off the man was stolen, according to the medical examiner's office. No one was yet in custody as a result of the fatal shooting, police said.
About 11:55 p.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.
The man was in the 2500 block of West 68th Street when he heard gunshots after seeing several males arguing on the sidewalk. He then realized he was struck in the leg, police said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
About 7:40 p.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was critically hurt during a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney.
The man was in the 200 block of North Laramie Avenue when an attacker walked up to him and fired shots, striking him in the abdomen, Sweeney said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
About 5 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of East 74th Street in the city's Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, a 24-year-old woman was shot in the left arm, according to police.
The woman was sitting in a vehicle when someone fired shots from another vehicle that drove by, police said.
She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition had stabilized, said Sgt. Bob Kane, a spokesman for Chicago police.
About 4:25 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of West 105th Street in the city's Washington Heights neighborhood, someone shot an 18-year-old man in his back and side multiple times.
The man was standing on the South Side sidewalk when someone he knew came out of a vehicle and fired shots, striking him. The attacker then ran away from the scene of the shooting.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
As of early Monday morning, no one was in custody as a result of the shootings.
