1 dead, 11 wounded in separate city shootings

May 23--One man has been killed and at least 11 other people have been wounded in separate shootings since early Sunday morning in Chicago, officials said.

The killing happened about 4 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Wabash Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman.

Gregory Carr, 20, was shot multiple times in his upper body when someone in a dark SUV fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour after he was shot.

Carr lived in the first block of East 69th Street, less than a block from where he was killed, according to the medical examiner's office.

Other shootings:

At 2:35 a.m. Monday, a 35-year-old man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood. He was on a front porch in the 7800 block of South Kingston Avenue when someone in a vehicle fired shots. He went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

About 2 a.m., a 50-year-old woman was shot in the Rogers Park neighborhood. She was in the 6400 block of North Magnolia Avenue when she was shot in the leg. She did not realize she was shot until about two hours later, and she got herself to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Her condition was stabilized.

At 1:30 a.m., two people were shot in the 2300 block of South Leavitt Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. A 30-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were on the street when someone fired shots from a red minivan. The man was shot in the foot and the woman was hit in the leg. Both went to Stroger Hospital and their conditions were stabilized.

At 11:25 p.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man got himself to Mount Sinai Hospital after being shot in Lawndale, police said. He was in the 1600 block of South Komensky Avenue when someone walked up and fired shots. He was hit in the knee and his condition was stabilized at the hospital.

At 10:45 p.m., a 24-year-old woman was shot in West Englewood. She was in the front seat of a parked car in the 6900 block of South Winchester Avenue when people walked up and fired shots. She was hit in the right inner thigh and driven to Holy Cross Hospital. She was expected to be transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital. Her condition was stabilized.

At 9:50 p.m., an 18-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Marquette Park neighborhood. He was in the 7100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue with a group of others when someone in a nearby sedan fired shots. He was hit in the abdomen and went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.

At 9:25 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in Galewood Park in the North Austin neighborhood. He told investigators he was in the park in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue when he heard gunfire and felt pain. He went to West Suburban Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. His condition was stabilized.

At 10 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot twice in one leg in the 3000 block of West 59th Street. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.

At about the same time, a 26-year-old man was shot in the 3600 block of West Lexington Street. He was shot in the buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

Earlier Sunday, a 23-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

About 6:30 a.m., the man walked into the emergency room at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center Hospital with a gunshot wound to his calf, police said.

The man told officials he was in the 3100 block of West Division Street when he was shot by an occupant of a white cargo van, police said.
