April 17--At least nine people were wounded in shootings since about midday Thursday on the city's South and West sides, authorities said.
Most recently, a person was seriously injured in a shooting early Friday in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.
The male, whose age was not immediately available, was shot repeatedly about 6 a.m. in the 0 to 100 block of West 71st Street, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. He was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
Police did not immediatley have details surrounding the shooting.
Hours earlier, a 28-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Lawndale on the West Side.
The man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital about 12:15 a.m. Friday, police said. The man had been standing in the 3100 block of West Lexington Street when someone inside a passing dark-colored vehicle fired shots, hitting the man in the right leg.
He drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. The shooting happened one block south of the 11th District police station.
About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a man was critically wounded after he was shot in the chest in West Englewood. The man, 36, was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Damen Avenue, police said.
The man was walking along Damen when he heard gunfire and felt pain. The man then ran home and called 911, police said. He was later transported to Holy Cross Hospital in critical condition.
About 8 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the South Chicago neighborhood.
The man was inside a business in the 500 block of East 79th Street when someone outside fired shots, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
The man was hit in his arm. He drove himself to Jackson Park Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.
Thursday afternoon, a 19-year-old man was shot in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. Someone approached the man in the 1500 block of South Kostner Avenue, and started shooting about 3:45 p.m., hitting him in the chest.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The shooter jumped into a black SUV that fled northbound. No one is in custody, police said.
Two men were shot in Hayes Park in the Wrightwood neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. The men were wounded in the 2900 block of West 85th Street and walked into Advocate Christ Medical Center about 12:35 p.m., police said.
A 30-year-old man suffered a wound to his back and another man, age 33, was shot in the arm. Police said they believe the shooting to be related to gang and drug activity.
Earlier, a man and a teenage boy were shot just after 11 a.m. in the Englewood neighborhood.
One was found near 64th and Bishop streets and the other was found in the 6500 block of South Racine Avenue. The shooting happened nearby, in the 1500 block of West 65th Street.
The 17-year-old boy who was found on Racine suffered a wound to the leg and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital for treatment, police said. The other man, age 19, was shot in the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said, citing preliminary information.
The two were walking together when shots were fired from a passing car, police said.
The shooting happened half a block from Providence Englewood Charter School, outside of which a 16-year-old boy was shot 10 days ago.
Police taped off 65th Street between Laflin and Justine streets as detectives examined shell casings.
Police circled the blocks in the area after the shooting in marked and unmarked cars.
