BRIEF: 2 women, man critically hurt in West Garfield Park car crash

Jan. 16--Two women and a man were critically injured after their car hit a building and caught on fire early Saturday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, authorities said.

Around 4:35 a.m., a woman in her 20s was driving a gray sedan east on Harrison Street when she lost control and struck a building near the intersection with Kostner Avenue, said Chicago Police Department spokesman Officer Jose Estrada.

The car then caught on fire, and the driver, as well as a 22-year-old female passenger and a male passenger, got pinned in, according to police and Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder.

The driver of the car and the 22-year-old woman were taken to Stroger Hospital. The male passenger, who is in his 20s, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Estrada said.

All three were in critical condition, said Schroeder.

The Police Department's Major Accident Unit is still investigating the crash.
