8 wounded in shootings since Monday afternoon

July 28--At least eight people have been injured, one critically, in shootings across the city since Monday afternoon.

A 22-year-old man was shot at about 7:23 a.m. Tuesday in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, said News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada, citing preliminary information.

He was in the 4300 block of North Ridgeway Avenue when he was shot in the shoulder, Estrada said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.

A 27-year-old man was shot just before midnight in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was standing on the street in the 0-100 block of East 102nd Place when someone fired shots from a passing red sedan, Alfaro said. The man was shot in the right thigh and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting at 8:45 p.m. Monday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

He was in the 1500 block of South Saint Louis Avenue when he was shot multiple times, Sweeney said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. No additional information about the shooting was immediately available.

In other shootings:

--A 23-year-old man walked into West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park on Monday evening with a gunshot wound to the hand. He told police he had been shot at about 8 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Washington Boulevard in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Sweeney said.

--Another 23-year-old man was shot about 7:40 p.m. Monday in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman. The man had a wound to the thigh and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized.

--A 25-year-old man was shot in the Lawndale neighborhood at about 3:40 p.m. Monday, Sweeney said. He was walking in the 1100 block of South Western Avenue when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots. He was struck in the arm and wrist and took himself to West Suburban Medical Center; he was then transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

--A 17-year-old boy was one of two people wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The shooting happened about 2 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Maypole Avenue, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The boy was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, Sweeney said. An 18-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
