13 hurt in shootings across city

Dec. 02--Thirteen people have been wounded in separate shootings since Tuesday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Most recently, a 24-year-old man was seriously hurt after he was shot around 1 a.m. in the University Village neighborhood, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The man was walking in the 1100 block of West Taylor Street when someone in a passing gray sedan fired shots at him, Gaines said.

The man was hit in the arm, abdomen and back. He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, Gaines said.

About 12:30 a.m., a 41-year-old man and a 45-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said.

Both were inside a first-floor residence at a building in the 9100 block of South Baltimore Avenue when an attacker walked up to the home's window and fired shots through the window, Gaines said.

The 41-year-old was struck was struck in head and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The 45-year-old was hit in the left side of the face and was also taken to Advocate Christ, where his condition stabilized.

Around 11 p.m., a 27-year-old man was wounded in a gang-related shooting in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The man was walking in the 3100 block of West 38th Street when a silver car emerged from an alley and someone inside it fired shots, Greer said.

The man was struck in the abdomen and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Greer said.

Police said the shooting was gang-related, and the victim is a documented gang member. Police found four shell casings in the alley where the shooting happened.

Nearby residents said they heard about seven gunshots.

About 9:50 p.m., a 27-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and the upper leg, Greer said.

The location of the shooting was not immediately known because the man was being uncooperative with the police.

His condition stabilized at the hospital.

About 7:40 p.m., two 25-year-old men and a juvenile male were injured in a shooting on the Northwest Side at 7:40 p.m., said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The three were in the 4600 block of North Central Park Avenue when an attacker walked up to them and fired shots, police said.

One 25-year-old man was hit in the hand and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The other 25-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to the same hospital, Greer said.

The third male, whose age was not immediately available, was shot in the leg and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Greer said.

The conditions of all three stabilized, police said.

Earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the 7900 block of South Marshfield in the Gresham neighborhood, Sweeney said.

The teen was shot in the side at 6:42 p.m., Sweeney said. The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition had stabilized, police said.

Another 17-year-old teen was shot in the 5100 block of West Madison Street in the Austin neighborhood at 5:30 p.m., Sweeney said.

That teen was shot in the leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Sweeney said.

About 6:35 p.m., a 28-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Greer said.

The man was standing outside in the 7300 block of South Stewart Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots, striking him in the foot, Greer said.

A friend took the man to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where he was listed in good condition, Greer said.

About 5:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said.

The teen was in the 5100 block of West Madison Street when he started fighting with a group of people near a gas station. One of the people in the group fired shots, striking the 17-year-old in the leg, Gaines said.

The teen was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

Earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood.

That shooting happened about 12:30 pm. in the 6600 block of South Claremont Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Department authorities.

The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, according to a department spokesman.
