BRIEF: 2 teens charged with beating homeless man to death

Jan. 05--Two teenagers were charged with murder in connection with the fatal beating of a homeless man in South Los Angeles, authorities said Monday.

Jordan English, 16, and Tyshaun Vasquez, 19, are accused of beating to death 43-year-old Eddie Ray Smith Jr. on Nov. 30, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

The pair are scheduled to be arraigned Monday, and prosecutors are seeking to hold both without bail, Robison said. Vasquez was arrested on Dec. 31, according to jail records.

Investigators found Smith's body in Rancho Cienega Park in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood, prosecutors said.

The pair are also each charged with one count of attempted robbery, prosecutors said.

English and Vasquez used a metal trash can to kill Smith, according to the complaint.
