BRIEF: 2 students suffer chemical burns at UIC campus

Oct. 31--Two students suffered chemical burns Friday morning on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus, said officials.

About 10:30 a.m., Chicago Fire Department paramedics were called to Damen and Washburne avenues for a call of injured students, according to Fire Media information. A hazardous material situation was called at the scene.

Two students were taken in fair to serious condition to Stroger Hospital with chemical burns, said officials. There was no immediate information available about what led up to the students being burned.

As of 11:20 a.m., the scene had been secured.
