Sept. 15--Two men were killed and at least 10 others, including two teenage girls, have been wounded in separate shootings since Monday morning on the South and West sides, police said.
Jaylyn D. Rounsaville, 21, was shot to death outside his home just before 10:30 p.m. Monday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to police and the coroner's office.
Rounsaville was in front of the building in the 3800 block of West Van Buren Street when an attacker walked up to him and fired, authorities said. He was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, said Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
Police said the shooting appeared to be narcotics-related. No one was in custody as of early Tuesday.
Most recently, a 48-year-old man was found shot to death inside his home in the 8500 block of South Burley Avenue in The Bush neighborhood on the Southeast Side. The man had been shot in his neck and was found by someone who then called 911 about 4:45 a.m. No one is in custody and Area South detectives are investigating.
The man was identified as Albert Gonzalez, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
In other shootings:
--Two 16-year-old girls and a 21-year-old man were wounded in a shooting at 1:34 a.m. Tuesday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, Gaines said.
The two girls and the man were outside walking in the 5400 block of South Wood Street when someone fired gunshots, striking them, Gaines said. One girl was shot in the arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital, and the other girl was grazed on the hip and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, he said.
The man was shot in the elbow and was also taken to St. Bernard. All were listed in good condition, Gaines said.
--About 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 28-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said. The man was walking in the 1500 block of North Washtenaw Avenue when he was shot in the back, and he was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Gaines said.
Several police officers guarded the scene of the shooting early Tuesday. Yellow police tape cordoned off a small chunk of the sidewalk on Washtenaw in front of a two-story residential building where the 28-year-old was shot. Pieces of broken glass and a yellow evidence marker lay on the sidewalk inside the crime scene.
--About 10:15 p.m. Monday, an 18-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said. The man was standing on the street in the 5400 block of West Adams Street when an unknown attacker walked up to him and fired shots, Gaines said.
The man was struck in the shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Gaines said.
At the scene, police officers blocked off the intersection of Adams Street and Lotus Avenue with yellow tape. About six yellow evidence markers lay near the curb on the northeastern corner. A group of men stood next to the perimeter of the crime scene and watched as officers investigated. One man rode up on a bicycle, paused for a moment and cycled away.
"This is the hood," said one man who stood next to the yellow tape. "What do you expect? We're used to this."
--A 23-year-old woman was shot in the chest and a 31-year-old man was shot in the leg Monday in the Ida B. Wells neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
Paramedics were sent to the 3700 block of South Vincennes Avenue at 8:20 p.m. for two people shot, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle said. The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, he said, and the man was taken by his friend to University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment.
--About 7:55 p.m. Monday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the right leg in the 100 block of North LaPorte Avenue, in the city's Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Trainor said. The boy told police he "heard shots and felt pain," the spokeswoman said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. No one was in custody early Tuesday.
--A 29-year-old man was shot in the 9700 block of South Wallace Street in the Longwood Manor neighborhood Monday afternoon, Trainor said. The man was shot in the neck at 4:12 p.m., and he managed to get to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, police said. Police said he was a gang member.
--At 8:55 a.m. Monday, a 22-year-old man was shot in the 6600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, Trainor said. The man was shot in the abdomen and arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The man was a gang member, police said.
