BRIEF: Woman charged with DUI in wrong-way crash on I-55

Nov. 10--A woman is facing a DUI charge after she crashed head-on into another vehicle early Sunday morning while driving the wrong way on the Stevenson Expressway.

According to Illinois State Police, two women were seriously injured early Sunday morning in the crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of I-55.

About 1:30 a.m., state police received several calls about a driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Damen Avenue, according to Illinois State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond.

Shortly after, the wrong-way driver, Lessly Hernandez, 22, of Chicago, crashed head-on with another vehicle, said Bond.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 29-year-old Willowbrook woman, had to be cut from her vehicle and was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Hernandez also was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, said police.

Hernandez was charged Sunday night with driving under the influence and reckless driving, said Bond.
