BRIEF: 2 pedestrians struck by vehicle, critically injured on South Side

May 10--Two women are in critical condition after they were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street early Sunday in Calumet Heights on the city's South Side.

The women were crossing in the 8900 block of South Stony Island Avenue when the driver of a minivan struck them, police said.

The two women -- ages 44 and 49 -- were both taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were listed in critical condition early Sunday.

Police said citations against the minivan's driver were pending. No other injuries were reported in the crash.
