BRIEF: Cold, freight engine fire delay Metra commuters

Jan. 09--A freight locomotive on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe line caught on fire Friday morning near Naperville, halting trains in the area, authorities said.

Trains were moving again by 9 a.m., but the fire added to delays that began around 6:55 a.m., when a train was stopped in Lisle because of weather conditions, according to Metra's website. Delays of nearly half an hour were reported.

On the SouthWest line, trains were running up to 40 minutes late because of signal problems, Metra said.

On the CTA, delays were reported on Loop-bound Orange Line trains because of a mechanical problem on a train near Western, the agency said.
