1 killed, 5 wounded in South Side shootings

April 03--One man was killed, and five others were wounded in shootings across the South Side since Thursday afternoon.

A 36-year-old man died after he was shot in the Park Manor neighborhood Thursday evening.

The man was standing on the street in the 100 block of East 69th Street when a gunman approached on foot and opened fire, police said. The 36-year-old was shot in his back.

He was transported to John H. Stroger Hospital where he later died, police said. The man had not been identified as of early Friday.

Most recently, a 20-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Englewood early Friday.

The man was walking with two other men in the 6400 block of South Eggleston Avenue when someone in a passing dark-colored sedan fired shots. The 20-year-old was shot in the left leg, police said.

He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

Just before midnight, a 21-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards. Police said the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue when two men walked up and fired shots.

The 21-year-old was hit in the left hip, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized.

A 23-year-old man was in serious condition after he was shot in his head in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The man was shot while sitting in the front passenger seat of a parked car in the 8700 block of South Saginaw Avenue. Someone in a white SUV pulled up to the car and opened fire, police said. The 23-year-old was shot in the head and left arm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Following the shooting, police taped off a middle section of the block. Yellow evidence markers dotted the pavement. The front passenger door was ajar on the black car in which the 23-year-old man had been sitting. The windshield had bullet holes. A few neighbors watched from their porches as police worked the scene.

Hours earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot in the 6600 block of South Justine Street in Englewood. The man was standing in an alleyway about 2:10 p.m. when someone approached and shot in him the leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Police said the man was uncooperative.

About 10 minutes earlier, an 18-year-old man sitting in a chair was shot in the 11300 block of South Corliss Avenue in the Pullman neighborhood. He told police he "heard shots and felt pain."

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition with an ankle wound, police said.

No one is in custody in connection with the shootings and area detectives are investigating.
