BRIEF: 2 men rob 5 people in Congress Plaza Hotel room

Jan. 17--Police are searching for two men who robbed three men and two women Saturday morning in a hotel room at the Congress Plaza Hotel after following one of the victims to his room.

The robbery took place about 8:30 a.m. at a hotel in the 500 block of South Michigan Avenue, according to a release from Chicago police. The Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Ave., is the only hotel on that block.

A 20-year-old man was followed to his room by two men, who forced their way into the man's room, and robbed him, two other 20-year-old men, and two women, ages 19 and 23.

The robbers took valuables, including cellphones, wallets, purses and cash, and then fled, police said. The victims called hotel security and security officers ran into the robbers in the hotel lobby, leading to a chase.

The robbers were able to escape through a front entrance, but a gun was found at the scene. No one was injured.

Police did not release a detailed description of the robbers or any surveillance photos.
