BRIEF: 2 hurt jumping from house fire in Bridgeport

Nov. 03--Two people were hurt and one of them was hospitalized after a fire broke out Tuesday morning in the Bridgeport neighborhood on the South Side.

The blaze started about 7:45 a.m. on the second floor of a house in the 1300 block of West 32nd Street, according to Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder. Two people were hurt when they jumped from the home's second floor to the ground to escape the fire, Schroeder said.

One of the two was transported in good-to-serious condition to Stroger Hospital, Schroder said, and the other refused transport. Schroeder could not specify the nature of the injuries but said they were minor.

Schroeder did not have the age or gender of the individuals who jumped from the building; the one who refused transport was male, he said.

Schroeder said that firefighters had secured the scene by 8:02 a.m. and that the cause was under investigation.
