BRIEF: 2 charged after fire hydrant cap hits vehicle's window, injuring 2 kids

May 06--Two men are accused of injuring two young children after they threw objects at a vehicle, breaking a window, Monday afternoon in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side.

Jonathon Gonzalez, 18, and Luis Olvera, 20, were identified as the men who were yelling gang slogans in the 2600 block of South Kedzie Avenue about 12:20 p.m., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

The two started throwing objects at a vehicle in which a 4-year-old and an 8-month-old were riding.

One of the men tossed a fire hydrant cap and broke a window on the vehicle, causing minor injuries to both children, according to police.

Gonzalez and Olvera were each charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery to a child, authorities said.

Gonzalez, of the 2400 block of South Sawyer Avenue, was also charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property, and Olvera, of the 2400 block of South Troy Street, was charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless conduct.

Both are expected to be in Cook County bond court Wednesday.
