BRIEF: 16-year-old shot to death on Northwest Side identified

Feb. 13--A 16-year-old boy found shot to death in a Hermosa neighborhood alley late Tuesday has been identified.

The boy was identified as Jorge Ruiz, of the 1700 block of North Keeler Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He was found with multiple gunshot wounds about 10:10 p.m. in the alley on the 1600 block of North Keeler Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. on the scene, according to the medical examiner's office, which determined Wednesday that he died of multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

Following the shooting, officers covered the boy's body in a blue sheet and taped off the icy alley.

A woman who identified herself as Ruiz's mother declined to speak to a reporter about him Thursday.

Police said the victim was a gang member.
