BRIEF: 14-year-old boy hit by freight train on Southwest Side

July 21--A 14-year-old boy was injured when he was hit by a freight train Monday morning in the Clearing neighborhood, authorities said.

The boy suffered an injury to his right leg when he was struck by the train about 11 a.m. in the 5900 block of South Natoma Avenue on the Southwest Side, Chicago police spokeswoman Ana Pacheco said.

The boy was taken to Loyola University Medical Center with serious injuries, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight. The boy was in serious condition at Loyola, Pacheco said.
