BRIEF: 14 Chicago chefs, restaurants up for James Beard Awards tonight

May 03--Updated: Chicago's first award tonight: Best Chef Great Lakes goes to Curtis Duffy of Grace.

Chicagoans are out in two other categories in the 2016 James Beard Awards.

Outstanding Pastry Chef: Goes to Dahlia Narvaez of Osteria Mozza in LA.

Outstanding Wine Program: Goes to Bern's Steakhouse of Tampa, Fla.

Meg Galus of Boka, Momotaro and Swift and Sons had been up for Outstanding Pastry Chef and Sepia restaurant was a finalist for Outstanding Wine Program.

Outstanding restaurant: Alinea

Outstanding restaurateur: Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz (Boka Restaurant Group)

Outstanding service: North Pond and Topolobampo

Rising star chef of the year: Jenner Tomaska, Next, where he just took over as executive chef.

Best restaurant design or renovation in North America since Jan. 1, 2013 (76 seats and over): Land and Sea Dept. for Cherry Circle Room and Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors for Cindy's Rooftop Restaurant.
