March 11--Ten people were hurt in a car crash Thursday evening in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.
The crash involved five vehicles and happened around 10:15 p.m. near 7500 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Joe Roccosalva.
Police officers tried to stop a vehicle on a traffic violation in the 9100 block of South King Drive. But the vehicle fled from police and shortly after struck another vehicle in the intersection of 75th Street and Jeffery Boulevard after failing to stop at a red light, causing the five-car accident, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.
Six people were in fair-to-serious condition and four people were listed in good condition. Four other people refused medical attention, Roccosalva said.
The people who were injured were taken to South Shore Hospital, Jackson Park Hospital and University of Chicago Medical Center. Their ages and genders were not immediately available.
A male driver of the vehicle that fled from police was taken into custody, and charges were pending early Friday.
No other information about the incident was immediately available.
