Jan. 20--A 1-year-old boy was found uninjured in the back seat of an SUV that had been carjacked in Cicero and later abandoned in Chicago on Wednesday morning, said authorities, who are searching for the man who took the vehicle.
A mother was dropping off her preschool daughter about 8:30 a.m. at a school in the 1300 block of 50th Avenue when she saw a man jump into the driver side of her Dodge Durango, which was double parked and had its engine running with the keys in the ignition, according to Cicero police.
The vehicle, with the baby in the back seat, sped off north on 50th and then east on Roosevelt Road. Cicero police officials said they responded and conducted a search, based on witness testimony. The search eventually took them east, and Chicago police became involved.
The vehicle was found near Roosevelt, in the 1200 block of South Kildare Avenue in Chicago, with the engine running and the boy strapped into the back seat. Cicero police describe the suspect as a black man in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 11 or 6 feet. He has a mustache and was wearing black pants, a black shirt and a black hooded jacked.
He was last seen by a witness running north across Roosevelt at Kildare.
