April 20--Two men and a woman were killed, and at least two others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Two people died after they were wounded in a shooting around 6:35 a.m. in the 2700 block of North Lavergne Avenue early Sunday in the Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said Monday morning. The Cook County medical examiner's office could only confirm one death, a male who has not been identified, from that location.
A 34-year-old woman and a man in his 20s were walking on the street about 6:35 a.m. when someone got out of a vehicle and opened fire, police said. The woman was shot in the head, and the man was hit multiple times.
Both were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where they were later pronounced dead, police said.
Another fatal shooting happened about 5:20 a.m. in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
A 43-year-old man was shot in the head in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, police said. He was later identified as Luis A. Perez, of the 2700 block of West 24th Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:38 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.
Police said the man had a lengthy arrest history and was a documented gang member.
Following the shooting police taped off a stretch of Washtenaw Avenue near 24th Street and searched a minivan parked near the corner.
Early Sunday, no one was in custody in connection with the man's slaying. Less than a year ago, a 16-year-old boy was gunned down on the corner in what police said was a shooting between rival gangs.
Hours earlier, a 21-year-old man walked into Roseland Community Hospital about 12:35 a.m. Sunday after he was shot in his buttocks.
The man told police he was walking in the 100 block of West 127th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood when he heard gunfire and felt pain. The 21-year-old drove himself to the hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Saturday afternoon, a man was wounded on the West Side in the Austin neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 3:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Massasoit Avenue, said police spokeswoman Bari Lemmon.
The 24-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Lemmon said.
The man, 24, was shot after he got into an argument with another man. Early Sunday, a 21-year-old "person of interest" was being questioned, police said.
No one was in custody in either shooting as of early Sunday.
At least 19 people have been shot since Friday morning. Five people were shot in separate attacks Saturday.
