BRIEF: Student arrested after drug search at Hinsdale Central

Dec. 11--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's The Doings Clarendon Hills: A 15-year-old student from Clarendon Hills was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance as a result of a drug search at Hinsdale Central High School on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Kevin Simpson, of the Hinsdale Police Department, said the boy was released to his parent's custody and his case will be referred to juvenile court. Simpson would not say what kind of drugs the student is charged with having. That was the only drug arrest made at Hinsdale Central, 5500 S. Grant St., Simpson said.

District 86 asked the Hinsdale and Darien police departments to conduct simultaneous searches at Hinsdale South and Central high schools using canine units.

The Hinsdale Police Department does not have a police dog, so the agency used canine officers and trained dogs from Oak Brook, Lisle, Willowbrook and Woodridge police departments. The departments are all members of the regional Felony Investigative Assistance Team, which has a variety of components.
