BRIEF: 1 hospitalized after electrical fire at West Loop Gate high-rise

April 18--One person suffered smoke inhalation after an electrical panel fire spread smoke Saturday afternoon in a West Loop Gate neighborhood high-rise.

As a precaution, at least six ambulances were deployed to the building at 525 W. Monroe St., according to the Chicago Fire Department.

An electrical panel located in the basement failed, causing heavy smoke to pour into the building, according to preliminary information from fire officials. One person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with smoke inhalation, officials said.

A special ventilation unit was called out to the scene to clear the smoke.
