BRIEF: 1 dead, 2 injured in separate shootings

Nov. 10--A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead after being shot Monday afternoon on the Far South Side, and two other men were injured in shootings on the South and West sides, police said.

The fatal shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood happened at 2:25 p.m. in the 300 block of East 120th Street, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man, who was a convicted felon, was found fatally shot in a vacant lot after someone reported gunfire to the police, officials said.

A 40-year-old man was shot in the head at 6:52 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. The man was outside when two males approached him and began firing shots at him, police said.

The man was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

Earlier, a 21-year-old man was injured at 4:36 p.m. after being shot in the 5000 block of West Crystal Street in the Austin neighborhood, Trainor said.

The man was on the street when a Jeep drove up to him and someone fired shots before driving off, Trainor said. The man, who is a gang member, suffered a graze wound to his neck and was in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, Trainor said.
