BRIEF: 1 dead, dozens hurt in Northern California bus crash

Nov. 24--A tour bus on its way from Los Angeles to Washington state crashed and rolled over on Interstate 5 in Northern California on Sunday morning, killing one passenger and sending dozens to the hospital.

Earlier in the morning, the same bus had crashed into a Denny's restaurant in Red Bluff, Calif., but nobody was hurt, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators suspect driver fatigue may have played a part in both accidents.

Police have not yet identified the 33-year-old man who was killed in the second accident.

Twenty-eight passengers were taken to hospitals in Redding and Mt. Shasta, two were in critical condition, according to a report by the Redding Searchlight newspaper. Nine passengers were listed in serious condition, or admitted, while others were treated and released.

The highway accident occurred about 7:40 a.m. when the bus apparently ran off the road and down an embankment before rolling over, according to a report on the KTLA website.

The driver, a 67-year old male from Los Angeles, was not injured, according to a report on the KABC website.
