BRIEF: 1 dead in West Side fire

Jan. 03--A man was found dead and four people were displaced after a fire in a South Austin two-flat late Saturday night, Chicago Fire Department officials said.

Fire Department crews arrived at the building in the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway about 9:45 p.m. to find "moderate" smoke coming from the building, said Chicago Fire Department Deputy District Chief David Dietz.

When crews gained access to the basement, where the fire originated, they found a man dead, Dietz said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office on Sunday identified him as Travis Johnson, 36, who lived in the same block as the fire. An autopsy Sunday said the cause of the man's death was pending further tests, according to the medical examiner's office.

Two adults and two children were unharmed but displaced from the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
