April 16--A man was pronounced dead after his van veered into a house Wednesday afternoon on the Far South Side in the city's Hegewisch neighborhood.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a van crashed into a home in the 12800 block of South Muskegon Avenue, said Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer Janel Sedevic, citing preliminary information.

The driver of the van was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead, she said.

The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately available.

The vehicle crashed into the home of an off-duty firefighter, authorities said. At the time of the crash, the firefighter was sitting on a couch and suffered minor injuries.
