BRIEF: 1 dead after being hit by Metra train near Round Lake

March 06--A Metra train hit and killed a person in Round Lake Thursday evening, a spokeswoman for the agency said.

Train 2129, a Milwaukee District-North Line train that left Chicago at 4:40 p.m., hit the person just before 6 p.m. just outside the Round Lake station, said Meg Reile, a spokeswoman for Metra.

The person was struck near Fairfield Road and Round Lake Road, between the Round Lake and Long Lake stations, she said.

Local authorities were working with Metra to investigate. Trains were stopped in the area.
