3 dead, 5 wounded in Chicago shootings

Nov. 29--Three men were killed and at least four people have been wounded in shootings since Saturday evening in Chicago, police said.

At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

They were in a parked car in the 5300 block of South Union Avenue when someone exited a dark sedan and fired shots at them.

The man was hit in the left side of his body and was pronounced dead on the scene. The man was identified as Maurice Jackson, of the 700 block of West Garfield Boulevard, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The woman was grazed in the left hip and taken to Stroger Hospital. Her condition was stabilized.

At 8:55 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was fatally shot in the Little Village neighborhood, Alfaro said. He was found in a van in the 2700 block of West 24th Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. He went to Mount Sinai Hospital and was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Carlos Romo, who lived on the block where he was shot, according to the medical examiner's office.

Just after 5 p.m., a 26-year-old man was killed in the West Englewood neighborhood, Alfaro said.

The man was identified as Tyris Washington, who lived on the the 6600 block of South Marshfield Avenue, where he was shot, according to the office. He was on the block when someone got out of a vehicle and shot him. He was hit in the stomach and hand and taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead.

At 5:40 a.m. Sunday, a 22-year-old man was shot in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

He was in the 6000 block of South Archer Avenue when someone walked up and shot him in both hands and the groin. He went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

At 5:10 a.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man was shot in Back of the Yards, Estrada said.

He was riding in a car in the 5400 block of South Hoyne Avenue when someone in a black sedan fired shots. He was hit in the lower left leg and driven to the Chicago Police 8th District headquarters. From there, he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

About 1:50 a.m. Sunday, a man walked in to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right thigh, Alfaro said. He told police it happened in the Englewood neighborhood on the 5500 block of South State Street. No information was immediately available about his age or the circumstances of the shooting.

At 9 p.m., a 21-year-old man was grazed by a bullet in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, Alfaro said. He was in an alley in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road when someone fired shots from a white sedan. He was grazed in the back and went to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was stabilized.
